Day Nine: Big Day

When Jayasuriya had a word with Tharanga in the first over and they started dropping down balls and running, I expected that they would try to unsettle the inexperienced opposition. How different the bowlers looked, erring in line and length when the batsman took the attack to them. Jayasuriya made merry joining in the sixes fun, like the other teams. They went quickly onto a 96 runs at nearly 7.00 per over, With Jaysuriya having made a 50 already. The experienced Rafique then got the breakthrough by taking Tharanga, but looked like the damage was already done. After having made 318 runs of their 50, Sri Lanka wrapped up the Bangladesh innings for 118 runs, with Ashraful the lone survivor and Malinga picking up 3. Jayasuriya was adjudged man of the match.

Hi arun,
Nice to read ur cricket blog .. especially i dont have skysports .. so i cant watch live cricket.
Lasith malinga's 4 in 4 balls was a remarkable feat .. but not new to me.
As an occasional member of my hostel's patriots B- team, once we were facing our A-team. Obviously they had better players and in a 20 over match, we were bundled out for a very chasable total. But we did not give up hope.
Ganesh, our captain gave me the ball in the 19th over. They had 6 wickets remaining and 16 runs to get. My second ball was hit for four. Third ball went for a single. Then there was a run-out. The new batsman hit my 4th ball for 2 but i got my revenge by clean bowling him .. the over finished with a single.
So we had Manojkarthick taking the ball with the opponents having 4 wickets remaining and 8 runs to win. Manoj(sonai) was a terrifyingly fast bowler who cares only about speed .. no wonder he was the most erratic bowler of our team. I dont know what got into him that day .. the first ball of his over was an unplayable toecrusher which took the middle stump right off the ground!
Suddenly we all had this newfound belief and manoj got the next one with a yorker as well. There was something magical about the occasion, seeing him running in with that confidence by the setting sun. He got the last two batsmen with perfect yorkers as well and wild celebrations started!! We had witnessed history. 4 consecutive balls, 4 yorkers, 4 bewildered batsmen clean bowled by one special bowler.
Manoj never bowled as well after that .. but that one day, i will never forget!!

Bye

Ranjit

wow.. Malinga will be proud.. Out of the four, three were very good balls.. and the fourth was a slow ball.. I wish Sri Lanka had won that one, if that was so, now South Africa will be in deep **it.
